Contest Rules

In its third year, the Show Your Reel 2011 Portfolio Contest is open to students across Central Texas at no charge. Students participate in on-line projects and attend tours of local businesses as they develop portfolios in one of 4 broad fields Media/Communications, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), Entrepreneurship/Financial Services and Music/Arts. Students that successfully complete the entry requirements become eligible to participate in one of our intensive summer institutes led by University of Texas graduate mentors and business leaders. Summer institutes are service learning projects in which students work directly with professionals to provide value to a local business or non-profit. During the summer of 2010, students worked with their professional mentors to develop an ad campaign for local Austin restaurant Hoover's Cooking.

To be eligible, students must:

1. Be between the ages of 13 and 20 years old.

2. Live in the Greater Central Texas area.

3. If you are under 18, have a Community Adviser or Teacher.

4. Be a registered member of the Media Xperiments web site. (Become a member Now!)

To enter, download ShowYourReelEntryForm.doc, complete and email it to mentor@mediaxperiments.com.

Show Your Reel Contest Guidelines

Media Xperiments is implementing the Show Your Reel 2011 Portfolio Contest in Central Texas. A key component to being successful in gaining acceptance to college is developing and maintaining a good portfolio. A portfolio can be printed and/or electronic examples of your work that help potential employers, educational institutions or business partners understand the range of your talent and skills.

The Show Your Reel 2011 Portfolio Contest allows students to visit a broad range of facilities and interact directly with professionals while they work to develop their own portfolios. Students may choose from media/communications, science/technology, entrepreneurship or music/arts as fields of interest.  At the end of the tour series, students have their portfolios evaluated by local experts within their fields of interest and compete for scholarships to attend one of our four intensive summer institutes within those 4 major disciplines.
