For Students: Artist's Statement

In all projects that I may be involved in, I would like for there to be a message. I would like this message to be positive and influence the thought process of at least one individual, and keep them from making a mistake that counld either be catastrophic, or maybe simply keep them from leaving the toilet seat up. My ultimate goal would be to become a film maker, much like the female version of Spike Lee. I feel I have been through certain circumstances, along with many of my peers that frankly the public should become more aware. I have many creative ideas that are craving to be seen by the public and if I did one thing before I died, that would definitely be to create a film that years from now would be considered a classic by all communities of people. A film that goes beyond plot and sequence, but truly dissects the effects that relationships can have on different individuals. When I make a film like that, I will have truly seen and experienced success and happiness.

Tell us something interesting about you.

I am a member of the National Honor Society, which required a lot of hard work and dedication on my part, so I consider it a great honor. Also I enjoy doing a substantial amount of charity work. I enjoy modeling, acting, and would love to get involved with film making. Hopefully, when I move to Los Angeles in the fall of 2009, I will be able to pursue these interests wholeheartedly.

Definition of Cultural Capital

What cultural capital is basically saying is that a person is able to get further in life if they have the right connections, life experiences, and education. Where as a person without all of these things will not be as successful in their aspirations.

embodied- social connections
objectified- possesions
institutionalized- level of education

Latest Project

The latest project that I am planning on displaying in the Austin Film Festival is a short film that features the horrible side effects that human trafficking can take on people. Not only does someone being sold into sex slavery afffects them, but as you can imagine it affects their loved ones as well. The film takes on the feel of a documentary by having the main character's best friend tell the story.
