- For Students: Artist's Statement
- I’m 16 and a Junior at Connally High School in North Austin. I am currently a member of the Connally Digital Media Club (CDMC). CDMC fosters and champions the use of digital media in artistic, technical, and educational communication. It is the ideal opportunity after school to come in and incorporate personal digital media projects with the help of other students and trained professionals. My video Instructor, Mr. Perez thought me how to use a Mac and the majority of all its programs to write story boards, and scripts, edit films, compose my music, create class filmmaking projects, research, and the basic fundamentals of successful work practices.

- Ive always been captivated by digital media and inclined to musical instruments. Equaly as well as all forms of writing, song lyrics and poetry. I was in the production crew in our class video project, CPR Affair, a Cougar Production for my sophmore year . My role as Sound Recordist and Audio Producer is ongoing. I've created several Hip-Hop instrumental tracks from Garage Band 3 and Reason 3.0.

Milestones
Well, it's March and spring is upon us. The Media Diversity Council has come a long way in the last two years. We now serve almost 500 students and professionals across Texas and next Tuesday will be our second annual Show Your Reel Portfolio Awards at GSD&M Idea City. Students have attended our free tours of media companies and submitted their portfolios to be reviewed by professionals. We’ll recognize the best work and award our first cash scholarship.
As with last year’s Show Your Reel finalists, students are eligible to become Media Protégés and participate in job shadow activities, service learning projects and internships. The video posted here is of Media Protégé Gabriel Leal on a job serving as the producer and video tech. Media Protégés broadcasted a live webcast to thousands of students across Texas from the George Bush Presidential Library & Museum in College Station on The Life of a Buffalo Soldier. .
RISE Austin - Multicultural Series
I'm proud to be a part of the RISE Austin Multicultural Series going on this week. My friend, Mr. Donnell Creech over at Soul Citi put together this guide for African American presenters at the conference. RISE is a free event with wealth of networking and informational opportunities. I highly encourage you to check it out.
I'll also be webcasting my presentation Media Incubator 2.0: Creating the Next Generation of Diverse Media Professionals noon to 1:30pm Tuesday at the Ronald McDonald House on Media Xperiments. Hope to see you there!
