For Students: Artist's Statement

I was already dreaming of one day becoming a movie director when I was eight years old. That goal has been realized. I am currently directing our class' short narrative film, which is currently in pre-production.

I am currently enrolled in a Video Technology course at John B. Connally High School. I enrolled in the course because I am eager to learn the skills that will help me become an exceptional movie director. I’m also involved in the Connally Digital Media Club (CDMC), which meets everyday after school. CDMC is an after school club which help students develop their skills in the media world. In CDMC I have talked to some of the more knowledgeable members and they have helped me understand what needs to be done when making a good film.

There are a few things that inspire me. One thing is life in general because events in life can be so unexpected. For example, you could be taking a walk down a street one day, bump into a famous person, and get their autograph. You could be walking down the very same street on another day, bump into a mugger, and lose all of your money.
Peaceful and beautiful landscapes inspire me. Especially the ones that no one has ever disturbed. Lastly, I’m inspired by my two favorite directors. They are Robert Rodriguez and Tim Burton because of the way they can tell a story.

I was able to gain some insight into the media world thanks to the media xperiments website, the media industries around Austin, TX that allowed me to visit them, my video tech teacher Humberto Perez, and the CDMC.I now know for sure that I want to be directing movies for the rest of my life.
