For Students: Artist's Statement

I love to see what I envision in my mind transform into something even better than I imagined. When I can do that with video editing it amazes me. I think Video Editing is an easier way to convey my views and feelings without vocalizing them constantly. It will always be there for anyone to watch or listen to, even when I’m not.

I feel that Digital Media is very convenient because it is always at hand. It’s on people’s phones, desktops, and laptops. It’s more convenient than a newspaper or magazine that you might have to seek out or purchase.

I usually begin a piece by imagining what the final cut will look like. I also try to imagine how a viewer will react to it. Then I start from there. I think to myself, “What can I do to this piece to get a reaction out of my audience.” It’s somewhat backwards, but it works for me.
When people witness my work I like them to be surprised. My friends perceive me as somebody who is probably not that creative behind a computer, especially video editing. However, I have learned a great deal about producing videos through my video tech class. And I feel that I am on my way to becoming a skilled editor.

I have two goals in life. One of my goals is to become very successful in whatever I decide to do. My second goal is to also love whatever I do. I am considering a career in Event Planning. More specifically, I would like to plan and organize concerts and/or shows.

I have enrolled in tech apps for next year, because I know that this will definitely prepare me for my future as an event planner. I will continue to learn as much as I can about directing and producing videos and media.
