For Students: Artist's Statement

Art is an endless source of magic and creation. It is the gateway to the unknown. It is one of the ways in which humans can transcend into harmony and perfection.
I love everything related to art, but filmmaking has a captivating essence in which images, sounds, and movements are transformed into a whirlwind of sensations and feelings.

I like to create stories that have a deeper meaning about the world and its problems; establishing themes that allow us to be better human beings and rational thinkers.
My inspiration comes from the thirst of expressing my concerns and many other people's concerns. I realize that there are many stories to tell. Every day as I journey through life I witness in others a lot of suffering, problems, joy, sadness, anger, laughter, and varying degrees of experiences. And I feel that there is a necessity for a voice that can bring these stories to life through film for the world to see and experience. My hope is that by others watching my films they will become aware of the magic and abstractness of life. In addition, my hope is that they will discover the beauty and true essence of life.

Therefore, I am extremely interested in a career in filmmaking. The thought of being a successful filmmaker is what gets me out of bed every morning. I am already a filmmaker because I have taken the necessary steps to becoming one. I am currently enrolled in Video Technology at Connally High School. I am the assistant director for our class' narrative short film project. Moreover, I produced and directed a short film this past Fall semester. I had enrolled in Cine Joven. Cine Joven is a filmmaking in Spanish program sponsored by the Austin School of Film that specializes in teaching young aspiring filmmakers about the filmmaking process. I will also be participating in this year's SXSW M.A.F.I.A. Day Youth Film Festival in about two weeks. We will have twenty-four hours to write, shoot, and edit a short film. I am very excited about this opportunity.

I will continue to develop my skills, my techniques, and my creativity. That is why I see myself becoming a great film director in ten years.
